What is Asthma?

  • Asthma is a chronic disease of the lungs where the airways swell, fill with mucus and the muscles tighten around the airway making it difficult for air to move through them.

  • When you have asthma, the airways in your lungs are overly sensitive to triggers, such as air pollution, exercise, allergies, viral infections and smoke.

  • Asthma is the most common chronic disease for children and number one reason that children miss school and visit the emergency room.
